DIY Natural Skin & Haircare

Everything you put onto your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream. Most modern cosmetics and skincare products are full of nasty chemicals. It makes sense to make your own from natural non-toxic plant based materials and they're so easy to make!  I used to run my own skincare business, so many of the recipes below are a gift from me - they're the products I used to make and sell.  You can also infuse any oils in the recipes with herbs to give it extra oompf. Still can't find a good Shampoo recipe - they're always too harsh or greasy - so if you know of one please let me know.

Make your own soap

Here's a link to a you tube tutorial on how to make your own soap.  I've been doing this for over 10 years now & after many tried & tested recipes, my favourite one can be downloaded by clicking the picture above.  Makes a good hard bar with plenty of lather. Click picture to download recipe.

Face Cream

This makes the fluffiest face cream & the aloe vera not only nourishes the skin but helps to absorb the shea butter into the skin's layers, making it less greasy than other recipes. Click picture to download recipe.

Body Butter

All over nourishing body butter for skin and nails.  Incredible on legs after you've shaved. Click picture to download recipe.

Wonder Balm

I originally wanted to call this 'Healing Balm' but Maritime Law said that I wasn't allowed to be factually correct about this skincare product so I named it 'Wonder Balm' instead. One of my best sellers. Protects against & treats skin damaged by wind & weather. Helps damaged, cracked or wounded skin to heal. Can be used to help eczema, psoriasis, acne, bedsores & scar tissue. Will soften, protect & help skin to hold its moisture & contains anti-inflammatory ingredients. Click picture to download recipe.

Deodorant that works

There are lots of recipes out there with coconut oil & baking soda but they always block my pores & cause spots. This recipe has just 3 ingredients, stings a little the first few times you use it but your skin gets used to it after that. Apply a couple of times a day to remain smell-free. Facial Toner

Removes all dirt, makeup and grease from your skin.  You could add Calendula petals to the mixture to help nourish the skin.  Click picture to download recipe.

Vapor Rub

Shop bought Vapor Rubs contain petroleum jelly - a waste product from the oil industry that's harmful to your skin.  This recipe deeply moisturises and soothes the skin around your nose when you have a cold and the essential oils help you to breathe more easily. Click picture to download recipe.

Liquid hand soap

So easy & so moisturising for your hands.  You'll wish you did it years ago. Click picture to download recipe.

'Burts Bees' style Lip Balm

This is the best lip balm you'll ever use.  It's solid, even in hot weather, deeply moisturises your lips and each application lasts ages. Click picture to download recipe.

Shower Gel

Not worth writing a recipe for - just fill your container with Castile soap & add Essential Oils to preferred strength. You could add some aloe vera gel & Vitamin E oil if you fancy? Enjoy!

Toothpaste

Many experiments until I perfected this recipe.  It remineralises the teeth, healing small cavities.  I also make Mouthwash with distilled water, 10ml Colloidal Silver & Fennel & Clove Essential Oils to taste. Currently experimenting with adding 1 tbsp of hydrogen peroxide to make it more whitening.  Will let you know how I get on. Note: if you don't have empty tubes, you can just put the toothpaste in a glass jar & dip your toothbrush in.  Click picture to download recipe.

Sunscreen

I don't use sunscreen unless I absolutely have to as  Vitamin D is vital for our immune system and general health  However, there are times when it's helpful to block the sun for a short period. Click picture to download recipe.

Spot Gel

All the ingredients are either soothing to the skin or antiseptic & antibacterial. Click the picture to download.

Bath Melts

Really moisturising & make your bath feel luxurious.  Great as a gift. Click the picture to download recipe.

Bath Bombs

So easy to make - and another lovely gift.  All natural ingredients. Click the picture to download recipe.

Bath Salts

Doesn't need a recipe card - just add an equal mixture of Himalayan, Celtic Sea Salt & Epsom Salts to a bowl & mix in essential oils to preferred strength.  I also like to add some dried lavender, calendula or rose petals.  Add to a pretty bottle or jar and use 3-4  tablespoons per bath.  Click the picture to download recipe.

Leave in Hair Conditioner

Deeply moisturising for healthy shiny hair. Click the picture to download recipe.

Curl Defining Cream

Good finishing cream.  Can also be used on the ends of straighter hair to condition & nourish. Click the picture to download recipe.

Hair Conditioner

I use this as a deep conditioner once a week & finish off with an apple cider vinegar rinse. Click the picture to download the recipe.

Mascara

This recipe is supposed to be waterproof - it's not quite, but it's a good alternative to chemical-ridden cosmetics, especially if allergic to cosmetic ingredients. Click the picture to download recipe.
